Monica went by various names while growing up, including Pulsar and Spectrum. Her parents were Carol and Maria Rambeau. She was a capable flier who trained in the art of piloting. She also became a member of the Sentient Weapon Observation Response Division (SWORD), a space-based organization that protects Earth from threats.
Monica Rambeau’s comic book history goes back to 1982, when she first appeared in “The Amazing Spider-Man Annual” No. 16. She later joined the Avengers as the first Black woman in the Marvel Universe. She eventually gave up her superhero name and adopted a new one, Photon, from her mother’s fighter pilot callsign. She has also used the superhero name Pulsar and Spectrum.
