With the Captain America: Brave New World footage from CinemaCon featuring “Lots of close-quarter combat and various action shots,” as well as Isaiah Bradley and other characters being used as sleeper agents, the movie seems to be evoking a Captain America: The Winter Soldier feel. Speaking to Entertainment Weekly, Mackie endorsed that sentiment. The actor said, “It made more sense for it to be more of a grounded espionage action movie as opposed to aliens and airplanes coming through portals and s—.”
Mackie even called what Marvel is doing with the upcoming Captain America movie and new MCU entries a reset for the franchise, saying, “I think with these movies, you’re getting a clear, new branding of what Marvel is headed towards the same way they did with Captain America: The Winter Soldier.” The image of Captain America walking through a dark corridor in street clothes evokes that grounded feel. Cap’s new suit, which is a darker blue instead of Sam Wilson’s classic white suit, is another nod to The Winter Soldier, raising excitement for next year’s Captain America: Brave New World.
