The answer to this question is a little bit complicated. It’s important to note that Netflix can only add movies and shows if they have the rights to do so. And sometimes, the companies that own the rights to a movie or show don’t want to work with Netflix, so the company will refuse to add it to its library.
The reason why Captain Marvel isn’t on netflix is because Disney is planning to launch its own streaming service, Disney+, and the House of Mouse wants to keep its films exclusively on that platform. Disney CEO Bob Iger confirmed this during a recent earnings call.
This will mean that Netflix will not have the right to stream any of Disney’s new releases starting from March 2019 onward. That includes Captain Marvel, Avengers 4, Spider-Man Far From Home, and any other MCU movies that are released this year.
Previously, Marvel films would typically get added to Netflix about seven months after they hit theaters. So, if Disney follows the same pattern, Captain Marvel should be available to stream on Netflix sometime in October.
If you are a fan of the MCU and you don’t want to miss any future releases, it might be a good idea for you to subscribe to Disney+ or another streaming service like Hulu. That way, you’ll be able to catch up on everything that is happening in the MCU before it gets added to Netflix in the future.
