When it comes to action-packed superhero movies, few franchises do it better than Marvel. From highly choreographed superpower battles to a stellar soundtrack, the Marvel Cinematic Universe has established itself as one of the best on the market. With that being said, the movie franchise hasn’t been without its flaws. While some of these have been more minor than others, there’s no denying that Marvel has a certain formula that works for it.
This includes bringing in well-known characters that audiences have been familiar with for years and giving them new stories to enjoy. One such example is the introduction of Carol Danvers, AKA Captain Marvel and Monica Rambeau, AKA Photon. Both of these heroes have been a part of the MCU for quite some time, and while the film may have tweaked some of their origins, the character’s underlying strengths remain intact.
As a charter boat owner in the Big Easy, Rambeau has plenty of experience fighting crime. She joined the Avengers shortly after they formed as a reserve substitute during a conflict between the Kree and Shi’Ar that threatened Earth. While on that mission, she met Miguel Santos, AKA Living Lightning and had a run-in with Jean Grey, AKA Phoenix.
After the war, Rambeau remained a reserve member and would occasionally be called on to aid the main team in their adventures. This included a fight with the dreaded Skrull and a mission to the outer planet of Aladna. On that adventure, the group would meet teenage Jersey City do-gooder Kamala Khan and be transported through a rift in space.
