The inspiration behind this video:

During a recent interview with Total Film Magazine (via GamesRadar) promoting The Marvels, director Nia DaCosta and producer Mary Livanos revealed more about Park Seo-joon’s MCU debut. As well as reassuring readers that The Marvels would be “wacky and silly,” and introduce audiences to “bright worlds that you haven’t seen before,” DaCosta also focused on Seo-joon’s character, who can be seen dancing with Carol Danvers in trailers for The Marvels. DaCosta suggested that “[Seo-joon’s] character is really awesome, and [it’s] really fun when you realize his relationship to our hero.” This could potentially hint at the pair being married, but Livanos’ comments tell a different story.

Livanos noted that Park Seo-joon’s new MCU character is “a definite ally to Carol Danvers,” but went on to mention that he is “someone from her past that is meaningful as a friend to her.” Livanos’ emphasis on Seo-joon’s character being an “ally” and a “friend” to Carol Danvers perhaps implies that the pair are not actually married, but simply close friends, perhaps having had dealings in the thirty-year-gap between Captain Marvel and Avengers: Endgame. While Park Seo-joon portraying Captain Marvel’s mysterious husband is an attractive theory, there are certainly perks to not including this type of relationship in The Marvels.
