The inspiration behind this video:
The Marvels’ trailer reveals the cold tragedy of Captain Marvel’s existence. She is alone, living in a chaotic ship knowingly titled The Hoopty (a phrase many will know means “piece of sh*t” car), with her connection to Earth limited to photographs and press clippings of Monica’s achievements – a ghost of her close friendship with her mother Maria. Her only companionship comes from Goose the flerken and an apparently massive litter of kittens. All of this paints a lonely picture, which is clearly by design to clash with the new dynamic Carol will be forced into by her impromptu super-team-up with Kamala and Monica. And it goes deeper than that.
In Endgame, Captain Marvel reveals that she “abandoned” Earth because there were other planets in need of her help who didn’t have the Avengers to look out for them. That, on top of the promise she established in Captain Marvel to prevent an intergalactic war between the Skrull and the Kree revealed Danvers to be the real Guardian of the Galaxy. For all of the accolades associated with that, The Marvels unveils the dark truth: by being constantly on overwatch duties, Captain Marvel has isolated herself to a tragic degree, wrecking all of her chances of friends or family, and explaining why Monica is so angry with her in WandaVision. But the worst of this realization is that Danvers chose this for herself.
