Carol Susan Jane is a fictional superhero who first appeared in American comic book comics published by Marvel Comics in her story entitled Captain Marvel. Created by writer Roy Thomas and illustrator Gene Colan, Danvers was a friend and colleague of the Kree hero Mar-Vell and later on, she became a member of the team. Initially, Carol was depicted as the assistant to the Spacekicker (a Kree scientist and father of the X-Men member Storm) named Scott Summers. She was a close friend of Professor X, whom she had known since they were childhood. During the Civil War, however, she remained loyal to the Avengers and was one of those who sacrificed her life to save the earth from destruction during the battle. In the aftermath, she was offered membership in the Avengers but declined due to the death of her friend Scott.
When the Avengers were merged with the Justice League, Carol stayed with the team but became a member of the Atom. She was an invaluable member of the Avengers and displayed various abilities beyond those of her teammates such as mental telepathy and the ability to generate duplicates of herself. These duplicates were made using her powers of illusion and illusionism. She could make her duplicates look like other people such as Cyclops, Jean Grey, Wolverine, or The Hulk. These duplicates would then attack any villains that tried to threaten the Earth.
In order to help fight the evil villains, Carol developed some powerful abilities in order to transform herself into an avatar of justice which she used against her enemies. She displayed great skills in martial arts, gymnastics, weaponry, and healing while battling her foes. Her strength was initially enhanced by gaining the power of flight and she later gained additional abilities in time. Among her early villains were The Phantom, Dr. Fate, and The Redeemer.
While fighting villains, Carol was also forced to develop her own group of Avengers and the A-Force. She had been chosen as the new leader of this new force but was still very angry with the Avengers for not believing her when she first began as their leader. However, after The Avengers did rescue her from jail, they gave her the chance to lead the A-Force herself. After being transformed into an army of superheroes, Carol finally went on to found the lost love of her life, Richard Rider.
Carol was able to use her powers of mind and imagination to create another alter ego for herself, The Captain Marvel of Earth. Using this altered version of herself, she was able to battle and defeat her enemies while using her unique set of super human powers. Later in the series, she went on to become known as The Wasp and fought against the evil villain Doctor Doom.
As you can see, Carol was very much like the classic Captain America and The Avengers members. Over the years, her powers and skills have grown and evolved. She has also developed into a more humanized version of her comic book character and has found happiness and peace as a result.
