If you’re the sort of person who enjoys a good cosmic fight, you’re going to like this. It’s worth noting that this is a bit of an odd story, as the character in question, Captain Marvel, has been vanquished twice before and most viewers would probably be rolling their eyes to see the Mad Titan back for another outing.
But it’s a fun story and it does show us one of the ways that Thanos is capable of changing his plans as he goes along, particularly as he collects the Infinity Stones and starts to realize that what he’s doing isn’t necessarily for the good of all of the universe.
The fact that the story also reveals that Thanos is completely unaware of the presence of Carol Danvers and what her powers are, makes it all the more interesting. We don’t know what role the powerful hero will play in Infinity War Part II or Endgame, but it would be nice to see Thanos still attempting to balance the universe and not yet fully understanding the impact that his plan will have on the universe.
It’s also worth noting that Captain Marvel (who is still just a Kree-Human hybrid thanks to the blood transfusion of Yon-Rogg) is an extraordinary character. Even without the power of the Tesseract, she has superhuman strength, durability, stamina, agility and reflexes, regenerative healing factor and is a master manipulator and hand-to-hand combatant. Had she been in a one-on-one fight with Thanos without the use of the stones and gauntlet, she would have likely won.
