Captain Marvel will arrive in cinemas in Australia on March 8, and will be released in the United States two days later. This will be the shortest gap between two MCU films to date. Although the studio has had great success over the years, it has never attempted to release two films in such close proximity. This movie will star Brie Larson as the titular superhero, along with Samuel L. Jackson as Nick Fury, the head of the S.H.I.E.L.D. organization that controls all Marvel superheroes.
The movie will also feature an origin story for Carol Danvers. After meeting Mar-Vell, she gains superpowers. While this isn’t a traditional origin story, it is likely to borrow elements from the Kree-Skrull War plotline. The cast also includes Teyonah Parris, Iman Vellani, Zawe Ashton, and Nick Kroll. Parris will reprise her role as Monica Rambeau, Carol Danvers’ grown-up version of her fighter best friend Maria. Her other credits include Chi-Raq and Dear White People.
Captain Marvel’s release date was originally planned for July 6, 2018. At that time, the studio wanted the film to be the first film in the MCU after Avengers: Infinity War. However, it was delayed for a few months, and Marvel has since announced that the film will now be released in July.
