Captain Marvel (Movie Review)

When the Tesseract brought the planets of the universe together, it unleashed powerful cosmic energy, which affected the lives of several heroes and sent them off on an intergalactic quest. Among them was former NASA test pilot Carol Danvers, who was dragged into this event along with her Kree colleague, Mar-Vell, by the villainous Yon-Rogg. During the battle, Carol was knocked into the Psyche-Magnetron, which altered her DNA and made her half-Kree. With her new powers, she took on the name Vers and joined Starforce, a Kree military unit, to combat the Skrulls.

When a Kree-Skrull conflict over the device escalated into a full-scale war, Carol was pulled into it as well, becoming involved with both sides and ultimately allied with Mar-Vell against Yon-Rogg. In the process, she adopted the codename Captain Marvel in honor of her late friend.

After her return to Earth, Carol found work at S.H.I.E.L.D. and began to recall her past. She also reclaimed the second Ms. Marvel costume she had worn, though she hid her diminished powers from the other team members. Her life took another turn when she was kidnapped by a man named Marcus, who brainwashed her into loving him and then forced her to give birth to his child. She eventually escaped Limbo, and her old Ms. Marvel identity was later reclaimed by Kamala Khan.

During her time with the Avengers, Carol has taken Spider-Girl/Arana under her wing and worked with the X-Men to erase government files on Xavier’s telepathic students. She also reformed her relationship with her friend Nick Fury and became close to fellow Guardians of the Galaxy member Maria Rambeau and the Ultimates’ Phyla-Vell. In addition, she has forged close bonds with her teammates, including Wonder Woman and Scarlet Witch, and is a mentor to the current Ms. Marvel, Kamala Khan.
