Marvel has a long-standing tradition of releasing post-credits scenes for its movies, typically offering something humorous or a small hint at what’s coming next. It’s a way for Marvel to thank its fans and to tease the next installment in the franchise.
Captain Marvel End Credit Scene
The final credits of Marvel’s new film, Captain Marvel, feature an unusual twist. Kamala Khan, the movie’s protagonist, is seen relaxing in her bedroom when her bangle begins to glow. Then, it suddenly warps away from her in a strange swirl of energy.
Her bangle ends up smashing her closet door in the process. But when she emerges from the wreckage, it’s actually Carol Danvers (Brie Larson), aka Captain Marvel, in her place.
Clearly, this is designed to set up The Marvels — the series that will see Ms. Marvel return with WandaVision’s Monica Rambeau and Iman Vellani’s Kamala Khan, who will both appear in the next movie starring Larson.
This post-credits scene isn’t quite as big as others in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, but it does make some sense. Earlier, in Avengers: Infinity War, Nick Fury sent a distress call to Captain Marvel on his two-way pager, which she eventually upgraded.
It would seem that she then traveled to the location of the pager and found Natasha Romanoff (Scarlett Johansson) and Bruce Banner, who explained what had happened and why Cap and Steve Rogers were missing.
But it also seems that she travelled back in time to the 1990s, which was years before Captain America: The First Avenger and Thor: The Dark World. It makes sense that she’d find the Tesseract (which appeared in the former and is now owned by Tony Stark in the latter) when she reached this place, though what exactly happened to it between then and then isn’t entirely clear.
