As superhero movies go, this one is pretty harmless for kids. It doesn’t have the sex and violence of some more adult superhero flicks. It also doesn’t have the dark themes of some of the other DC and Marvel movies. This is a movie that is all about the heroism of women and it does an excellent job showing that you don’t need a man to save you.
However, there are still some issues that parents should be aware of before bringing their children to see this movie. The main issue is that the film is told in a nonlinear fashion, so the younger audience may need someone to help them follow the story. It’s also set in the 1990s, which is a time that most younger children aren’t familiar with. This means that there will be a lot of jokes that they won’t understand and they may have to ask an older family member to explain them.
Violence: There is a good amount of violence in the film, but it is mostly of the sci-fi, “space laser guns” variety. There is also a scene in which a skrull is shown dead and another is killed off screen. There is a bit of hitting and Nick Furry uses words like “mother fucker” and “cockpit it.” There are also some mild sexual references (ass, cock) and a shirtless Captain Marvel.
This is a movie that will be enjoyed by families who are fans of the Marvel and DC universes. It’s an excellent addition to the franchise and it will give kids a positive message about female empowerment, perseverance and integrity.
